Skin Care In Male

Historically, women took good care of the skin, while men were not much aware about normal skin care. However males are now increasingly concern about skin care. There are subtle differences between skin of men and women.

  • The stratum corneum tends to be thicker in men than women.
  • Total skin thickness is about 25% greater than women.
  • The collagen content in male is more than female skin at the same site at all ages.
  • Men produce more sebum than women do.
  • Men skin tends to be thin with age, while in women, the skin thickness remain almost constant until menopause.  After menopause, female skin tends to be thinner with increasing age.
  • Contrary to popular belief, skin in men is more delicate due to an increased exposure to environmental pollutants and the ritual of shaving.

The basic care for skin remain same – Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturizing. Cleansers should neither be harsh nor oily. Toning with products containing glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids will help the skin retain elasticity and even help to prevent ingrown facial hairs.

After shaving, moisturizing is important. To simplify skin care routine, a moisturizer with sunscreen is useful, for men with outdoor occupations or sports activities.

Products for men generally contain the same actives but are marketed for men in order to reduce consciousness of buying skin care products.
